With the holiday season sometime comes nasty Midwestern weather. But that
did not stop people from coming out to the Melody Inn to help support Toys
For Tots.
The Melody hosted the benefit, “Rock For Tots,” on December 18, to help
gather toys for children in need. As the DJs filled the air with music and
the toy box kept getting fuller and fuller with donations, the holiday
spirit was really being felt as friends bought each other drinks, good
cheer was spread throughout the bar, and people danced where ever they
could.
After DJ Sarah Vain serenaded us with an Electro/New Wave/Post Punk mix,
Indianapolis reggae ska-punksters Lockstep took the stage to grind out
some vintage reggae ska sounds the only way a group of punks can churn out
— noisy, raw and with a lot of soul.

Dave, bass/vocals, Travis, guitar/vocals, and Matt C., drummer, of Lockstep gets the room heated up with their upbeat and proactive ska sound.
Taking a break in between sets, DJ Greg Roper and Rebelle pulled out a
more current eclectic mix to give time for the Thin Fevers to set up. By
then the rain had turned to sleet and was coming down in sheets.
When the Thin Fevers turned up the feedback and began soaring through
songs from their album “New Systems,” the place was heated up. The energy
this band exerted was nothing short of exciting as band members would take
turns going down on the floor and getting as close as they could to their
fans. Despite some minor technical difficulties, the group shaked it all
off with ease and was in prime form for their blur of a set.
