When one mentions the band Beta Male in the Circle City, it’s likely that they know exactly who you are talking about without an explanation. The band’s uniqueness in sound and style make them virtually unforgettable. When Beta Male released “Husband’s Girlfriend” unto the scene, it was like an explosion of slinky rhythms and unforgettable hooks. And when they hit the stage, it’s without a doubt that the audience will be grinding right along if not gaping at the group’s provocative presence. P. David (drummer and vocalist) takes a minute to give us a quick update on the band.
Please share the current affairs of Beta Male? The band is working on a fall/winter tour? How is that coming along?
We’re always trying to figure out how to get all of our amps to go to 11. That keeps us pretty busy. No time for much else, really.
What is the current construct of the band and how do you feel that is affecting the band?
Mostly water. About 70%. It keeps things flowing nicely.
Any news on a new album? How is that going? When can we expect to get our hands on some Beta Male music?
Our debut album drops sometime this fall. For real this time.
Beta Male is a unique perspective within the Indianapolis scene. How do you feel about your place within the Indianapolis music scene and what you do as a band both visually and musically?
Beta Male is an experiment in outsider art. You’ve got this artist boy surrounded by three people who really have no idea what they’re doing and aren’t involved in the scene in any way whatsoever. And its great because when no one expects anything of you, you can do whatever you want. Naked hula hoopers? Sure. You can do that.
What are your thoughts on a festival like the Broad Ripple Music Fest and its importance in the local music community?
We are happy to be a part of the Fest’s festivities this year. I hope a bunch of people come out, and that the bands give a little extra. When people come out and expect to have an awesome time and bands give a little extra, it’s usually pretty swell.
