Live + Burn
Self-Released
Rating: 4 out of 5

As time continues to move forward and indie rock gets more jangly and perforated, I sometimes forget how important the post punk and early ‘80s alternative scene actually was.
But then a band like The Opposite Sex comes along, and I have my Bauhaus, Gene Loves Jezebel, The Fall and The Alarm vinyl scattered across the floor.
Live + Burn is not a mere fabrication based on a general longing to sound like the above bands. This is an album that is raw in essence with the power and emotion the above bands were trying to express in the first place. You can feel it in every note and word.
“Thread” is that art rock bass throbbing that hides in dark corners of the room. And they play “Leave It all Behind” and the title track like it was the last thing they would ever write. And if it is, then that’s just fine because this is five songs that I will embrace over and over again just to get one more listen.
