Beautifully lit, and filled with self-contemplative allegoric motives, Midnight Masses fill up this EP like a meditative midnight stroll through the quiet escapes of the mind.
Full of brooding organ hums and harmonics that sways around like an ‘80s gothic drama, Rapture Ready, I Gazed At The Body begins like it should end. “Walk On Water” is the haunting beauty of a dampening drum beat and ghostly journeys that seem to dissipate out into eternity and end in nothingness.
And if that is the beginning, then there is no other place to go but cross over. The band takes after-hours aura and builds a fascinating gyration of synth rock and early ‘90s alternative like someone trying to perform an exorcism with some Spacemen 3, Television, and Concrete Blonde albums.
The EP moves quickly as transitions bleed together as quick as a short story. “Preacher’s Son” flows into “I Was A Desperate Man” and ends with “Do You Believe In Rapture?,” a soothing night-light serenade that will make the jet setters line up to confessional. The spark, however, lies in the band’s ability to put it all together and create a flawless diorama of musical pleasure.
