Single remixes are always hit or miss. Sometimes the remixer takes the song so far out of context that it gets lost in translation and becomes a contorted miss even within the remix album itself.
But for Scott Hardkiss’ Come On, Come On (Part II), all eight (yes, eight) remixes of the song are complimentary with each other so that the album flows like a slip ‘n’ slide during a thunderstorm.
Even though you are constantly reminded that you are indeed listening to the same song, the album plays as if it was a full plate of electronic goodness. Dean & Britta takes a luxury ride through downtempo incandescence, a perfect way to begin Hardkiss interpretations. The mood continues as it slowly crescendos with Joe Clausell’s “Dance Dance Remix,” which should be better noted as the “Cumbia and Jazz Fusion Remix,” as it stretches over 11 minutes of latin-tinged landscape. Clausell’s “Humidity Dub Version” continues the momentum.
But no matter how wild these remixes get, they never get unruly, keeping the essence of the song near at hand and the interpretation formal.

I liked this single better than the album from which it was taken, in part because it’s a pretty good song to begin with. On top of that, the selected remixers actually add a little something to the, um, mix.
Plus, the cover artwork is sooooo much better than the album’s. Almost a full bonus star right there.
