The Hedons

The Hedons join an already cluttered Indianapolis ‘Doom Rock’ scene. Between the fuzz and macabre; this trio forge on to lament their own identity in the fray. The Hedons will be joining a meaty lineup at The Melody Inn on July 16th for the now infamous Punk Rock Night on Saturday Nights. I caught up with guitarist/vocalist Jeff Kaleth and tried to get some answers to a few questions about the band and the local musical landscape. Much like The Hedons music, his answers are direct and to the point.

After the breakup of your former band Necropharmacon, how did a project such as The Hedons come together?

The Hedons started as a spiritual successor to Necro.

Who/What influences the creativity for your unique blend of music as a unit?

Our influences range from desert rock to Chicago-area punk to stoner doom.

You are currently working on an EP, titled ”Earth on my Nerves”. What do you hope to accomplish in the studio and are you happy with the progress thus far?

EP is done and being sold digitally and we’re stoked about that.

Indianapolis seems to have a multitude of close knit bands that are a part of the locally thriving genre of ‘doom hard rock/metal’. How would you describe this community of bands/musicians? How do you think you stand out from the crowd?

We’re still finding our place among the Indy stoner and doom metal scene but try to stay unique by keeping things simple and switching up styles.

What should we expect from The Hedons in the near future?

Right now we’re focused on getting some shows to promote the EP and hopefully raise enough money to buy a van for touring, and we’ve got plans to do a split with the Mound Builders and a full-length album to follow up.
